Root Cellar Cafe
Founded in 2005, with humble beginnings in the Root Cellar Cafe, we specialize in Americana fare with an artisanal twist, making food from scratch, using local when possible, and baking our own breads daily.
Root Cellar Catering Co.
In the last few years, we have vastly expanded our concepts and brands with the addition of our catering company, Root Cellar Catering in 2015, providing memorable meals & event services to over 200 clients annually, including weddings, corporate functions, and non-profit galas.
Rhea’s Ice Cream
Not to be overlooked is our fun-loving, summer-cooling, ice cream shop Rhea’s Ice Cream located in San Marcos, Gruene, and New Braunfels, Texas. Rhea’s displays just what ingenuity and a light-hearted spirit bring with a small space but huge flavor & personality! Rhea’s has been part of the The Taproot brands since it’s acquisition from Rhea in 2010.
Tin Top Burgers & Ice Cream
The perfectly located burger joint in New Braunfels, Texas. Tin Top was created in early 2019 inside a Victorian building with an iconic tin roof, directly across the street from the popular summer destination Schlitterbahn. Famous for our pickles and unique burgers, Tin Top is the perfect stop along your float down the river.
The Gruene Grove
Shortly following the expansion of our catering company, we opened Gruene Grove & Goodwin’s Speakeasy in Gruene, Texas in 2018. Gruene Grove features some of the best cocktails off the Guadalupe River in a gorgeous shaded outdoor courtyard, situated in historic Gruene.
The Coffee Bar
Everyone in San Marcos knows The Coffee Bar is the best spot to grab a handcrafted hot or iced espresso and a baked-from-scratch pastry. Located on the corner of the historical town square, this local hangout is perfect for catching up with an old friend and reveling in the joy that only housemade pastries & hand-crafted coffee drinks can bring. Come and enjoy the atmosphere of our 100+ year old building or grab something memorable to take-out and enjoy the town. Wurst in Gruene
Our newest concept under the The Taproot umbrella is a retro-fit air-stream trailer at the Gruene Grove. First opened in the Summer of 2021, Wurst in Gruene serves up quality bratwursts, traditional sauerkraut, potato salad, & vegetarian items to appeal to a hungry crowd!
